Community

Meadowbrook Christian School is a community outreach ministry of Christ Wesleyan Church.  It’s located on a 90 acre campus in central Pennsylvania.  A regional private school, our student body represents 19 school districts spanning seven counties.

School

Meadowbrook Christian School was founded in 1982.   Currently, MCS is home to 400 students with programming beginning at age three and continuing through grade 12.  MCS is fully accredited through the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA).  Other affiliations with the Central PA Chamber of Commerce and its’ Business and Education Partnership, Buffalo Valley AM Kiwanis Key Club, National Honor Society, and the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association also exist.

Curriculum

 Preschool (Nursery, K4,K5) and Elementary (1st – 5th):  Classrooms are self-contained settings with highly qualified Christian teachers.   The subjects taught in these grades include Bible, Reading, Spelling, English, Math, Science, History, and utilize a mix of A-Beka, Purposeful Design (ACSI), and Bob Jones texts.  Additionally, elementary has specials in Art, Music, Introductory Spanish or Spanish for Spanish Speakers, Keyboarding (4th–5th grades), Library, and Physical Education.

Middle School (6th-8th)   Students rotate among middle school teachers as they move from subject to subject. Placement for Math courses begin at the end of 5th grade allowing for students to be given the opportunity to take courses best suited for their individual strengths. These courses include Pre-Algebra, Algebra and Algebra 2. Students take courses in Science, Social Studies, Math, and Bible each year. In addition, courses such as Learning Enrichment Across Disciplines (L.E.A.D.), Art, Music, Computers, Spanish, Spanish for Spanish Speakers, and Communications are also offered. Students are given the opportunity to participate in musicals, fine arts competitions, spelling bee, student government and various leadership opportunities.

High School (9th-12th) In addition to the core courses, students may elect to take Art, Chorus, Speed and Agility, Yearbook, Family Consumer Science, Office Support, Introductory to Education, Spanish 3, Spanish 4, and Spanish for Spanish Speakers .  Juniors and Seniors can also elect to take Honors classes in Bible, English, Spanish, Science, and Social Studies.  In addition, there is a dual enrollment program made available to high achieving juniors and seniors to have the opportunity to enroll in dual credit courses. MCS has partnered with Liberty University Online and Bloomsburg University.  Honors courses for eligible juniors and seniors include Honors American and British Literature, Honors Advanced Biology, Honors Physics, Honors Spanish III and IV, Honors US and World History.  AP Calculus is available to qualified students.

Dimensions Program gives additional opportunities to students.  This program is designed to give students unique opportunities not typically offered in core classes.  These offerings include classes in SAT Prep, Worship Arts Technology, Praise and Worship Team, CPR and First Aid Certification, Personal Finances, Auto Maintenance, Leadership Training, Historical Simulation, Babysitting Certification, and Photography.

Meadowbrook Christian School employs a full-time Director of Curriculum to ensure best practices in content and delivery of our academic program.

GPA Calculation and Student Ranking

 Grade Point Average (GPA) is calculated on non-weighted 4.0 scale. Honors courses are weighted at a 1.03 percent factor before computing the grade points for the course. Beginning with grade 9, all core subjects and electives are included in the computation. All graduates have completed a minimum of 24 credits, including four English, four History, four Math, and three Science, along with a Bible credit for each year attended, and elective credits.  Grade Point Average and Class Rank is recorded on the official transcript.

Standardized Testing

TerraNOVA3 is used for students each year in K5 through grade 10.  Students participate in the full College Board program, including ReadiStep with 8th grade, PSAT for both sophomores and juniors, and the SAT for juniors and seniors.  The ACT is used by some students.
